Independent Bus / Independent Omnibus / Omni Independent etc..

Omnibus –

  • a book containing reprints of a number of works (as of a single author or on a single subject)

Independent – not dependent:

Example / Definitions:

  1. not subject to control by others: Self Governing
  2. not affiliated with a larger controlling unit: an independent bookstore
  3. not requiring or relying on something else: not contingent: an independent conclusion
  4. not looking to others for one’s opinions or for guidance in conduct
  5. not bound by or committed to a political party
  6. not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood): independent of her parents
  7. being enough to free one from the necessity of working for a living: a person of independent means
  8. showing a desire for freedom: an independent manner

My goal with comics has always been to show the things that are in my mind and things I think are cool to others.

I have never been in awe of some of the concepts of other developers due to my thinking was different than theirs.

Of all characters and comics that intrigued me were the ones that were that I mentioned in previous posts like, Power Man and Iron Fist, The Hulk, Swamp Thing, and a few others.

They were of interest to me due to their struggles, their locations upon where they lived, and their desire to change their environment and condition. These were things that I could relate to and the reason why I was a fan.

So, now I have an idea for a project that I know is too big for me, but that is the exact reason why I want to do it. Even if I fail, I will be miles ahead of where I am now. So what do I have to lose? Nothing.

…a brief summary of a larger work or of a field of knowledge

Example: a one-volume compendium of the multivolume original

My project is simple, connect with like-minded artists, put together a Compendium of independent comics, hosts them in a graphic novel format and sell them on select sites and areas.

Take like-minded, independent artists and developers and put a book together? That’s been done. Why would you reinvent the wheel?

Let’s use cars as an example

Arguably the first car was filed for a patent in 1886 in Europe. Since then we have come a long way from three-wheel trikes to haul artillery until the Tesla that we have today.

Along, this time we have never made a better mode of transportation that can provide “independence”, comfort, speed, safety, and affordability.

Profit is the key to motivator and the root of greed. We have seen car companies that make cars for the working man to the prince and any and everything in between.

Much like my idea, the Omnibus is a type of transportation system that can provide “independence”, comfort, speed, safety, affordability for the developer. But, this does not mean that it is going to be a Chrysler Aries K, or a Chevy Lumina or a cheap product that is replaceable or outdated in two-three years.

Nope. This Omnibus has to be in a market, or a niche market that allows for a solid price, vetted artist, comfort for the reader and affordability to the developer or me.

Plus, the whole process is to get new material out there so we are not stuck with Batman and Robin, or the Justice League, or the Avengers Part 200.

Omnibus Market

$50-$75 plus some gear to go along with it is what I am thinking. Yeah, off the top of my head, the price for something like this would be over $50. But, why so much for a book?

If I use the analogy with cars and auto manufactures, then a Chevrolet (or General Motors) is Marvel or D.C. They saturate a market with repetitive characters and storylines and we know of the plots and twists, but they either cannot break away from their bread and butter, or do not have anything in the idea pipeline that can take them into the next level of character entertainment.

It’s a work in progress

I do not have all the answers, but I do have the ability to start the bus and drive forward. If all else fails I will fail, not have what I wanted, but discover something new and valuable that will still propel me forward.
